Meet Laura Bathia

Founder of Golden Seed Landscape & Gardening Works

I’ve known Laura Bathia personally for quite a long time, but it wasn't until recently. When we crossed paths in our business network, that I got to see what she does professionally. To say I am impressed is an understatement. As the founder of Golden Seed Landscape & Gardening Works, Laura is a self-proclaimed introvert who let her work do all the talking until she stepped into the networking world. We are featuring her because she doesn’t just plant trees; she designs emotional retreats. Laura understands that while interiors give us function, an outdoor space gives a home its actual soul, shifting the energy of a place the moment you step outside.

Social Konnections: The "Real Talk" Q&A

What do you see when you look at an empty plot of land?

Potential. Organically, my eyes just start to scan the surrounding area and topography for the suitability of biophilia.

Laura’s philosophy on “quiet luxury” reminds us that the most premium spaces don’t try too hard, they focus on restraint, natural textures, and the calming rhythm of nature. My promise to you? After reading her perspective on green spaces, you’ll look at your own backyard or balcony not just as empty square footage, but as a living canvas waiting to breathe.

Why is the "outdoor soul" of a home just as important as the interior?

The ‘outdoor soul’ of a home is where a space begins to breathe. Interiors create comfort and function, but gardens create emotion. A thoughtfully designed outdoor space slows us down, softens stress, and reconnects us to nature in a way that no wall or ceiling ever can. Even a small balcony with the right greenery and light can completely shift the energy of a home.

For me, the one element that creates an instant sense of peace is water. The sound of flowing water has a calming rhythm, it masks noise, cools the atmosphere, and creates a feeling of escape. Real magic happens when all three work together: greenery brings life, light creates warmth, and water adds movement. A beautiful outdoor space doesn’t just change how a home looks, it changes how people feel inside it.

How has the UAE's unique landscape "cultivated" your style?

Living and working in the UAE teaches you very quickly that landscaping here is about balance, resilience, and intelligent design. The desert taught me simplicity. There’s something incredibly powerful about the natural tones, textures, and openness of the UAE landscape. It made me appreciate clean lines, earthy palettes, and materials that age beautifully under the sun rather than fight against it. Because the climate is challenging, every choice has to be intentional—from heat-resistant materials and water-conscious planting to treating shade as a design language rather than an afterthought.

How do you create a garden that feels premium without being "over-the-top"?

‘Quiet luxury’ in landscaping is about creating a feeling, not showing off. The most premium outdoor spaces are often the ones that don’t try too hard; they feel effortless and timeless.

For me, luxury is found in restraint and detail. Instead of filling a garden with too many elements, I focus on layering textures thoughtfully: natural stone with character, warm wood finishes that age gracefully, soft tonal greens, and subtle lighting that highlights shadows instead of overpowering the space. One of our biggest design tools is actually shadow.

What's the most rewarding part of watching your work "come to life" over time?

The project is never truly ‘finished’ the day we hand it over. Unlike interiors that remain relatively static, landscapes continue to evolve, breathe, and mature over time, almost like living art.

There’s something incredibly special about returning a year later and seeing how nature has completed the vision. Trees become fuller, vines settle, and the space develops its own character. Seeing families actually living in the spaces, children playing, people gathering, or someone enjoying a quiet morning coffee outdoors, that emotional connection is the real reward.

What kind of "green footprint" do you want to leave behind?

The true purpose is creating environments that improve the way people feel, live, and connect with nature and each other. In today’s fast-moving world, people spend so much time surrounded by screens and concrete that they forget how deeply nature affects emotional wellbeing.

I believe greenery changes behavior. A shaded courtyard invites conversation, a peaceful garden encourages stillness, and a well-designed outdoor space creates moments people remember.

The "Landscape" Rapid Fire 🌿

Wild and lush or structured and symmetrical?

Structured and symmetrical.

The sound of running water or the rustle of leaves?

The sound of running water.

Your favorite plant that thrives in the Dubai heat?

Ixoras.

One outdoor "accessory" every home should have?

A shaded area with a few plants, either potted or in the soil, to unwind in nature after a long day of work or chores.

The most challenging & rewarding project till date?

One of our completed projects in Dubai Hills. It’s a beautifully layered garden with structural trees, lots of bird sounds, and a very calming space.

The business network you wish you had joined earlier?

I'm an introvert, so I stayed away from networking when I had a regular job. I finally joined BNI! when I started my own company, and it was easily the best decision I made.
